Egypt Day 3

Before I left the farm, the servant told me to go to the Ancient Temple of Ra. When I went on my boat I used the servant’s instructions to the ancient temple of Ra who was known as the father of all Gods. He told me that Ra was the universally-worshipped king of the gods. Ra also has a symbol in hieroglyphics which I stuck below. 

Ra- Father of All Creation

Ra has many names like Re Patron of: the sun, heaven, kingship, power, light. The appearance of Ra normally looks like a pharaoh wearing the sun disk on his head. Ra was worshipped widely throughout Egypt, Ra was the main sun god for centuries. Ra was generally considered as a male. Ra was worshipped in many ways using hymns, prayers and spells to help Ra and the sun boat over come Apep. Ra’s symbol is a sun disk. A power that the Egyptians believed Ra possessed was that he created the world. Ra was thought to travel on two solar boats called Mandjet

( The boat of millions of years )or the morning boat and the Mesektet or the evening boat. These boats took him on his journey through the sky and the underworld. He is equal second with threeother gods on the hierarchy. Ra’s role in the afterlife is the solar vision, in which the deceased soul travelled with Ra on his daily journey, was still primarily associated with royalty, but could extend to other people as well.

Egypt Day 2

The servant had lead me to one of the great farms of ancient Egypt.  I met on of the farmers that worked there and he explained to me many things about the way they planted the crops and bred the animals and how most of the things they grew went to the Pharaoh.  

The Farm

On the farm there were many animals that had many uses like using oxen to pull ploughs but they also had animals like pigs for food but also sheep for making clothes using the wool.

The farmers themselves were peasants and they used the fertile soil to plant their crops.

The farmers used many tools that were simple but useful like ploughs, and sickles. They also used a shaduf which they used to collect their water source for their crops, thewater came straight from The Nile. It would require only one person to lift the water out of the Nile into a clay container. The Egyptians would use these clay pots to carry all sorts of things including water.

Egyptian farmers grew many crops that differed from each other, but the all the good stuff that was harvested must be given to the Pharaoh. They grew things like grain and other products. The grain was used to make beer, bread and other grain products.

Egypt Day 1

My name is Emperor Amass, the greatest emperor that ever lived in the lands of China. I have sailed to the great Nile River to trade with the most richest people of Ancient Egypt. As I command my crew to slowly manoeuvre the oars of the boat to the shore of the beach. The stifling hot air made it extremely difficult to stand up. As we docked at the shore, I could see many peasant workers carrying bundles of supplies off the boats and into the royal families house which was humungous.As I walked of from the edge of the boat, I was greeted by a servant of Pharaoh Ramses I. the servant told me that he would give me and my men a special tour around the great Egyptian Land starting off at the farm where the farmers grew many crops and bred animals for the great Pharaoh.

THOMAS EDISON

The person I have chosen for Night of Notables is Thomas Edison. I chose this person because I am very interested in what Thomas Edison did as a young person but also what he did to produce all those amazing devices including the light bulb. I am very fascinated in science and inventing and I really want to learn as much as I can about this notable person.

Thomas Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the seventh and last child of Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr. At the age of 10 Thomas actually built his very first lab from a book that his mother had gave him about science. Edison had developed hearing problems at his young age and when Thomas was at the age of 12 years old, he went completely deaf. To Thomas, in some way it was better so that he could concentrate better without being disturbed by loud noises.

Thomas Edison has made our lives easier. One of his marvellous inventions the light bulb is one thing that we use in our daily life, it assists and helps us by giving us light to read by and ultimately to light our cities, roads and homes.  Movies and the phonograph gave the public two choices in entertainment. Prior to this, only books and stage productions provided the greatest forms of entertainment in that time of history.

Without Thomas Edison’s light bulb and other magnificent inventions of his, our world would not be as entertaining or as easy to live. Without Edison we would still be burning wood for energy. Our world would be a polluted more than ever and we won’t have enough trees to replace the oxygen.

My Notable Person

My notable person is Thomas Edison. Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor, scientist and businessman who developed many great inventions and devices including the electric light bulb.  Thomas Edison was born on February 11th 1847. He died on October 18th 1931(1931-10-18) (aged 84). Thomas Edison is the third most productive inventor in history. (Amass Zheng.)

The Scholar Story

THE SCHOLAR STORY

There was once a man who lived in a country that had no fruit trees. This man was a scholar and he spent a great deal of time reading. In his reading he came across references to fruit. The descriptions of the fruit were so enticing that he decided to make a journey to experience fruit for himself.

He went to a market and asked everyone he met who knew about fruit to give him directions for where to find it. He made a map and carefully followed all the directions to get to where he could find fruit. Finally he found himself at the entrance of an apple orchard. It was springtime and the apples were in bloom.

The scholar entered the orchard and proceeded immediately to take one of the blossoms to taste it. He liked neither the texture of the flower nor the taste. He went to another tree, then another, until he had sampled blossoms from all the trees. Each blossom although beautiful was quite distasteful to him. He left the orchard and returned to his home country and reported to his fellow countrymen that fruit was much overrated.

I believe the scholar didn’t succeed in his quest to discover what fruit tasted like because                  when he was at the orchard, instead of eating fruit, he was eating blossoms.

You have to prepare and also ask the correct questions or else you won’t get the correct answer.

My Big Bang Theory

My Big Bang Theory

The theory that appeals to me is the scientific explanation of when the universe was only a tiny dot which Exploded with a ‘BIG BANG’ which then expanded really quickly then cooled and it still continues to expand even today.

The myth that makes sense to me is the Chinese creation myth when there was only an egg with both Ying and Yang in it. All the opposites were all conjoined together.  Finally the egg burst and a dragon came out and Ying and Yang swirled around him to form the earth.  Every day the dragon grew higher with the sky until finally the dragon began to hammer out the mountains and filled the valley with water top form huge oceans.  He created rivers with his fingers and stamped the earth down to make flat land. After the dragon fell asleep forever.  His blood became the rivers. One of his eyes became the sun and the other the moon.  His breath turned into the wind while his voice turned into thunder. Both this theories and myths have their way of explaining the creation of our world.
